I’ve something special for you today. While in normally in Capital & Conflict we peer at the financial markets and try to learn their secrets, today I’d like to try and answer a more existential question: why does this business exist? Why do we publish what we do here?
If I had to put it bluntly, I’d say our role is to question the investing mainstream, to research alternative strategies for protecting and growing your wealth, and to share those tools with our readership.
We charge for many of these tools, course. We don’t and will never manage your money, so unlike the rest of the investment industry, we don’t cream a management fee off the top of your wealth. Instead, we charge subscription fees for our premium investment research, and that’s how we maintain and grow our business.
But that’s a rather impersonal description. Today, I’ve something better to show you.
Not long ago, we held The Southbank Investor’s Exhibition, where our editors made their case for what they expect the future will hold, and how to profit from it.
But it wasn’t just our editors who gave a presentation.
At the end of the exhibition, our publisher Nick O’Connor gave a speech. Nick has executive authority over what we do and do not publish, and in his presentation he revealed why he’s moving the company in the direction he is.
It’s in preparation for what’s coming.
Now, you would’ve needed a ticket to the exhibition to watch this originally, but as I thought this was a great description of what it is we do here (not to mention a great introduction to our work if you’re a new reader), I’ve called in a couple favours and can share that video with you today.
All the best,
Boaz Shoshan
