What connects a monument in the Czech Republic…
David Bowie…
A romance involving a pigeon…
The ancestor of the “Marine Lizards” prowling the South China Sea…
And an investment of several million dollars (in today’s terms) by JP Morgan in a device which was sold for scrap at a fraction of its cost…
… and yet over a century later, is still ahead of its time?
Yes, dear reader – its beer o’clock again. Following the success of last week’s riddle, we’re doing it again.
Crack this before anyone else, and I’ll send you a favourite bottle of beer of mine. It’s not my favourite Belgian beer this time – the subscriber who solved the Hindenburg riddle got my last one of those. But don’t worry, the bottle on offer this week is significantly larger – and while last week’s beer was 10% ABV, this one is even stronger…
Tell me how all those dots are connected and what device was scrapped, and the beer is yours. Provided you do so before anyone else, of course.
One guess per person: [email protected].
If you’re needing any further clues, I’ve removed a certain someone from this image from 1896:
But they are present in this image from 1915…
I’ll leave you with that for today. I’m just drafting up this this month’s issue of The Fleet Street Letter Monthly Alert, and with all there is going on right now, I’m sure you can appreciate that there’s plenty to write about…
All the best,
