Prime Minister David Cameron has a date. The 23rd June is set in stone. Not that anyone knows what they’ll be voting for by then. David Cameron’s deal with the EU may be more or less clear. But what would Brexit actually mean? Nobody knows. Which allows everyone to claim their position on whether Brexit would lead to a “better” world.
Once again one of the PIIGS is making a mess of things for David Cameron. Greece used the Brexit negotiation as leverage over its migrant crisis. As a result, David’s deal with the EU isn’t as enticing as it might be for the undecided voters. We could be in for a close one on the referendum.
Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, has joined our The Fleet Street Letter Editor Charlie Morris to back Brexit. The pound promptly tanked the most in 11 months when Boris came out and said it.
What’s odd is that suddenly this is a bad thing
While other countries spend billions of newly created dollars, euros and yen to weaken their currencies and gain a trading advantage, the UK only needs to have Boris back Brexit. But instead of celebrating the declining pound, the mainstream media lamented the currency decline, saying it proves how terrible Brexit is. That narrative became harder to push after the stock market popped more than a per cent this morning.
Of course it’s not just Boris who is backing Brexit. Other mainstream politicians have come out to campaign too. And kudos to the PM for letting Conservatives do so. Assuming he had much of a choice.
The good news is you do have a choice. And not just on the referendum. You have the choice on whether or not to protect yourself from the consequences of that vote. Whether the UK stays in the EU or not makes little difference in my opinion. Who knows what the UK government will come up with if we leave?
Your real choice is far more important: What should you do about the threats you will face under either outcome? Whether Prime Minister David Cameron or EU Presidents Schultz, Tusk and Junker bring those threats down on you makes little difference.
